Chakana, an Andean symbol of resistance in the San Francisco Bay Area

In honor of the chakana, a pre-Hispanic Andean symbol representing the union between humans, nature, and the spirit world, a group of South American immigrants celebrate the beginning of the harvest and their ancestral roots that have survived colonization, consumer society, and technology.

The Chakana helps these Andean immigrants reaffirm their indigenous identity in a foreign environment and look to the future together.
